Ben Foster’s outstanding goalkeeping displays for West Bromwich Albion have given the Baggies one of the best clean-sheet records in this season’s Premier League.
For England he started two internationals in 2014 to take his caps total to eight.
Foster has been a professional since signing for Stoke City in 2001 and was first capped as a Manchester United player in an Old Trafford friendly with Spain in 2007, which England lost 1-0.
He announced his retirement from the England squad in May 2011 but had come back into the fold by February 2013.
His performances at club level earned him a place as one of Roy Hodgson’s three ‘keepers for the World Cup in Brazil. He started the warm-up friendly with Ecuador in Miami, a 2-2 draw, and was handed another start in the last Group D fixture with Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte.
It was surely the highlight of his career, doubly so as he kept a clean sheet.
